When you log out of your Mac or restart it, deselect ”Reopen windows when logging back in” when prompted.
Or start up in safe mode, then restart normally. This doesn't change the setting, but your Mac forgets any windows that were open the last time you logged out or restarted.
If you accidentally close a browser window, just type Command-Z immediately to undo the action. Or you can take a look at the Recently Closed section in the History menu; Or if you want to get back to the tabs you were looking at before your Mac last shut down, in History menu choose Reopen All Windows from Last Session. Open up Automator from your Applications folder or through Spotlight, then select 'Application' and click on 'Choose' to get started. Hide mac default app. If you deselect this setting and an app continues to open automatically:
- The app might be a login item. You can add or remove login items in Users & Groups preferences.
- The app might have installed its own startup software. Often this is controlled by a setting within the app. Check the app's preferences or documentation, or contact the app's developer.

Use the setting in General preferences
To prevent apps from remembering the windows they had open, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click General, then select ”Close windows when quitting an app.”

It has been a long time since I have used Firefox (got a Macbook, and for some reason just used Safari for a long time), so please forgive me if I am just missing something in the Firefox settings.

Anywho, I have Firefox set up to not remember my history because I like the privacy it offers. I think it is odd that I have it set up to delete my history, yet when you go to 'History', it keeps a list of all my closed tabs.. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of having the browser not save my history?
